Gospel Reading For The Healing Message: Mark 10:17-31

As Jesus started on his way, a man ran up to him and fell on his knees before him, "Good Teacher," he asked, "What must I do to inherit eternal life?" "Why do you call me good?" Jesus answered. "No one is good - except God alone. You know the commandments: 'Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, do not defraud, honor your father and mother.' " "Teacher," he declared, "all these I have kept since I was a boy." Jesus looked at him and loved him. "One thing you lack," he said, "Go, sell everything you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me." At this the man's face fell. He went away sad, because he had great wealth. Jesus looked around and said to his disciples, "How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!" The disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus said again, "Children, how hard it is to enter the kingdom of God! It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." The disciples were even more amazed, and said to each other, "Who then can be saved?" Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but not with God; all things are possible with God." Peter said to him, "We have left everything to follow you!" "I tell you the truth," Jesus replied, "no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age (homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields - and with them, persecutions) and in the age to come, eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and the last first."

The Healing Message: The Goodness Of God

- God is good all the time
- The goodness of God is immeasurable

Seven Things About The Goodness Of God:

1.) God is good to those who fear and trust him.

Psalm 31:14-20 - But my trust is in you, O Lord; you are my God. I am always in your care; save me from my enemies, from those who persecute me. Look on your servant with kindness; save me in your constant love. I call to you, Lord; don't let me be disgraced. May the wicked be disgraced; may they go silently down to the world of the dead. Silence those liars - all the proud and arrogant who speak with contempt about the righteous. How wonderful are the good things you keep for those who honor you! Everyone knows how good you are, how securely you protect those who trust you. You hide them in the safety of your presence from the plots of others; in a safe shelter you hide them from the insults of their enemies.

2.) God works positively for good and in unfavorable circumstances to those who fear and trust him.

- You may be asking, "If God loves us, why am I living this miserable life? Why am I having this troubled life? Why all these hardships? - Because God loves you.

- The goodness of God is not affected by unfavorable circumstances. Remember what happened to Joseph, the son of Jacob? Genesis 50:19-20 - But Joseph said to them, "Don't be afraid; I can't put myself in the place of God. You plotted evil against me, but God turned it into good, in order to preserve the lives of many people who are alive today because of what happened.

Romans 8:28 - We know that in all things God works for good with those who love him, those whom he has called according to his purpose.

3.) God demonstrates his goodness in his promises.

Isaiah 1:19 - If you will only obey me, you will eat the good things the land produces.

Joshua 23:14-16 - "Now my time has come to die. Every one of you knows in his heart and soul that the Lord your God has given you all the good things that he promised. Every promise he made has been kept; not one has failed. But just as he kept every promise that he made to you, so he will carry out every threat. If you do not keep the covenant which the Lord your God commanded you to keep and if you serve and worship other gods, then in his anger he will punish you, and soon none of you will be left in this good land that he has given you."

- All of God's promises have conditions.

4.) God demonstrates his goodness in his gifts.

James 1:16-18 - Do not be deceived, my dear friends! Every good gift and every perfect present comes from heaven; it comes down from God, the Creator of the heavenly lights, who does not change or cause darkness by turning. By his own will he brought us into being through the word of truth, so that we should have first place among all his creatures.

5.) God demonstrates his goodness in his actions.

Acts 10:38 - You know about Jesus of Nazareth and how God poured out on him the Holy Spirit and power. He went everywhere, doing good and healing all who were under the power of the Devil, for God was with him.

Nehemiah 9:19-21 - But you did not abandon them there in the desert, for your mercy is great. You did not take away the cloud or the fire that showed them the path by day and night. In your goodness you told them what they should do; you fed them manna and gave them water to drink. Through forty years in the desert you provided all that they needed; their clothing never wore out, and their feet were not swollen with pain.

6.) God demonstrates his goodness in his readiness to forgive all our sins.

Isaiah 1:18 - The Lord says, "Now, let's settle the matter. You are stained red with sin, but I will wash you as clean as snow. Although your stains are deep red, you will be as white as wool."

- Remember the Parable about the Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-32)

Romans 8:31-39 - In view of all this, what can we say? If God is for us, who can be against us? Certainly not God, who did not even keep back his own Son, but offered him for us all! He gave us his Son - will he not also freely give us all things? Who will accuse God's chosen people? God himself declares them not guilty! Who then, will condemn them? Not Christ Jesus, who died, or rather, who was raised to life and is at the right side of God, pleading with him for us! Who, then, can separate us from the love of Christ? Can trouble do it, or hardship or persecution or hunger or poverty or danger or death? AS the scripture says, "For your sake we are in danger of death at all times; we are treated like sheep that are going to be slaughtered." No, in all these things we have complete victory through him who loved us! For I am certain that nothing can separate us from his love: neither death nor life, neither angels nor other heavenly rulers or powers, neither the present nor the future, neither the world above nor the world below - there is nothing in all creation that will ever be able to separate us from the love of God which is ours through Christ Jesus our Lord.

7.) God demonstrates his goodness through signs, wonders and miracles.

- If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer.

- Don't ask just for material things, ask God for the Holy Spirit. For without the Spirit of Christ, you will never understand the Gospel and without the Holy Spirit in you, you will never understand the goodness of God.

Luke 11:11-13 - "Would any of you who are fathers give your son a snake when he asks for fish? Or would you give him a scorpion when he asks for an egg? As bad as you are, you know how to give good things to your children. How much more, then, will the Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

May you have a happy and prosperous life!
